Letter Threatens Black School Board Members
The NAACP and the Americus Sumter Observer newspaper were given a very racist letter that was sent to school board members and several other government agencies. The letter targeted board members who are employed with South GA Technical College. The letter is given in its entirety for all of the community to see. The Black board members are, Mr. Kelvin Pless, Mrs. Alice Green, and Mrs. Edith Green. The letter contains a warning to Sparky Reeves, SGTC president, to remove all three board members who are employed or they will boycott the institution.
The letters were mailed via U.S. Postal Service to the three board members. The board members have asked the local NAACP to initiate an inquiry with the proper authorities as to whom these threats should be reported. President Wright of the NAACP said that his office will make a formal complaint first with District Attorney Plez Hardin concerning intimidation, retaliation, and terroristic threats.
