Dr. Busman: A Disgrace on Both the Phoebe Sumter and School Boards

Citizens in Sumter County call for Michael Busman, a local Americus physician, to resign from the Phoebe Sumter Hospital and the Sumter County School Boards. Driving under the influence (DUI), Busman posted bond after being arrested recently. He allegedly was involved in a motor vehicle accident when he left a Halloween Party. Dr. David Campbell, local family physician, posted a $2,000 bond. Busman refused a sample of breath for an alco-sensor evaluation, according to GA State Trooper Sgt. R. E. Odom, Jr., the arresting officer. ......Full Story

Bombs, Bridges and Jobs

A few years back Representative Barney Frank coined an apt phrase for many of his colleagues: weaponized Keynesians, defined as those who believe “that the government does not create jobs when it funds the building of bridges or important research or retrains workers, but when it builds airplanes that are never going to be used in combat, that is of course economic salvation.” Right now the weaponized Keynesians are out in full force — which makes this a good time to see what’s really going on in debates over economic policy. ......Full Story

Obama, Glass-Steagall and a Breakup of Big Banks
by ROBERT REICH

Next week President Obama travels to Wall Street where he'll demand - in light of the Street's continuing antics since the bailout, as well as its role in watering-down the Volcker rule - that the Glass-Steagall Act be resurrected and big banks be broken up. I'm kidding. But it would be a smart move - politically and economically. Politically smart because Mitt Romney is almost sure to be the Republican nominee, and Romney is the poster child for the pump-and-dump mentality that's infected the financial industry and continues to jeopardize the American economy. ......Full Story

Pull Your Money Out of Bank of America

By Matt Taibbi, Rolling Stone

My good friend Nomi Prins has a great new piece out that I just caught on Zero Hedge, chronicling 10 reasons why depositors should pull out of Bank of America.

Obviously Goldman, Sachs has become the great symbol of investment banking corruption, and other companies like AIG and Countrywide have become poster children for problems with businesses like insurance and mortgage-lending. But when it comes to commercial banking, Bank of America is as bad as it gets......Full Story

Michael Moore in Oakland: "No Turning Back"
Filmmaker and activist Michael Moore told about 500 "Occupy Oakland" protesters Friday that they are inspiring "Occupy Wall Street" activists across the country. Speaking at Frank Ogawa Plaza in front of City Hall, where tents have again sprung up, Moore said people throughout the US were "disgusted" and "horrified" when police fired tear gas and bean bags and took other aggressive actions against protesters Tuesday night. Although police cleared protesters and their tents from the plaza Tuesday morning, the protesters and their tents returned the next day. Wearing blue shorts, a blue hooded sweatshirt and a gray hat, Moore told the crowd, "Millions have seen this and are inspired by you because you came back the next night." He said, "This week in Oakland, California, will go down as a watershed moment" in the "Occupy Wall Street" movement........Full Story

’High tech lynching’? Not so fast, Herman Cain
Having been caught in rolling disclosures and shifting stories regarding the settlement apparently paid to two female employees of the National Restaurant Association during the time he led the organization between 1996 and 1999, Herman Cain has resorted to a familiar defense. He and his supporters are accusing the "liberal media" of a "high tech lynching" of yet another "uppity black" who dares to be conservative. If that sounds familiar, you probably lived through the Clarence Thomas hearings. Back in 1991, Thomas uttered the infamous phrase after Anita Hill, who was supervised by Thomas at the U.S. Department of Education and the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, testified that Thomas repeatedly sexually harassed her and behaved lewdly in the workplace......Full Story
