Mrs. Ruby Hinton Minter

Mrs. Ruby Hinton Minter of 1402 Madison Street, Americus, Georgia died Saturday, January 20, 2018 at the Southern Regional Medical Center in Riverdale, Georgia.

The funeral service will be held Saturday, January 27, 2018 at 2:30 P. M. in the sanctuary of the Friendship Baptist Church in Americus, Georgia.  The burial will follow at Staley Memorial Garden in Americus, Georgia.

Mrs. Ruby Hinton Minter was born on February 9, 1936 in Dooly County, Georgia to the parents of the late Mr. Willie Hinton and the late Mrs. Daisy Leary Hinton.

Ruby was educated in the Dooly County School System. At an early age, she accepted Christ as her     personal Savior. She joined Friendship Baptist church under Reverend Daniel Thomas, where she has continued membership for over fifty years.

She was united in Holy Matrimony to Albert Minter, and just recently celebrated 61 years of marriage. To this union, seven beautiful children were born.

Ruby was employed with Sumter County Board of Education for 27 years. She had a passion for working with special needs children.

She was involved in the Deaconess Ministry, was a member of the Silver Circle Civic and Social Club where she held office as Chaplain, and served on the Executive Board for the City Federation of Colored Women’s Club Inc. where she held office as treasurer. She was also treasurer of Noon Day Bible Study, sang with the Mass Choir for many years, and was a Nehemiah.

She had such a love for life and brought passion and dedication to anything she was involved in. She enjoyed a lifestyle of fitness and well-being and was known for walking faster than most – up to ten miles a day for a number of years. She walked with and included many members of the community in this hobby. She was an active member of Silver Sneakers and enjoyed fellowshipping with many of her friends there.

On Saturday, January 20, 2018, God in his infinite wisdom called our dear wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, home. She leaves a legacy of love with her Family and Friends and she will     indeed be missed by all she touched. She was preceded in death by four children: Wanda June Minter,   Albert Glen Minter, Linda Minter Floyd, and Jesper Minter Gay. Ruby leaves to cherish her memories a loving husband, Mr. Albert Minter (Americus, GA); Three devoted daughters: Deborah Minter (College Park, GA), Senia (Cookie) Minter (Americus, GA), and Kellye Pittman, along with one devoted son-in-law, Andre Pittman (Stockbridge, GA); Four loving grandchildren: Shakenna Floyd (Atlanta, GA),   Gregory Hadley, along with Jazmyn Simmons, (Atlanta, GA), Jaydon Gay (Stockbridge, GA), and Loren Pittman, along with Grand-dog, Dallas (Stockbridge, GA); Two Sisters: Earlene Harp (Jacksonville, FL) and Verna Bradley (St. Petersburg, FL); One brother: Larry (Johnnie) Hinton (Decatur, GA); Sister-in-law: Liz Hinton (Decatur, Ga); Three Aunts: Pauline Glover (Atlanta, GA), Ethel Hinton (Ideal, GA), and Ninia Hinton (Doraville, GA); Devoted nephews: Leonard (and Mary) Grover (Americus, GA), Floyd (and Deborah) Hinton Jr. (Atlanta, GA), Calvin (and Pat) Minter (Americus, GA); Nieces: Viola Varner (Americus, GA), Earnestine (and Eldrick) Mercer (Americus, GA), Doris Grover (Americus, GA); Ann Whitehead (Americus, GA); Devoted Friends: Alice Green and Family; God Daughters: Alicia Green, and Tawnya Hadley; God Grandchildren: Kahria Hadley, David Sumlin, and Kaicen Wiley. She also leaves behind a host of other cherished nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.



Tiffany Nicole Prince will celebrate her birthday on February 19.


Nancy Green was recently chosen as the ASHS Teacher of the Month for December 2017.
