Around the age of twenty-two or twenty-three, Rev. Edge had spent much of
his time in the service of God. He attended church faithfully, led
devotional services, and led songs as a member of the Lebanon Baptist Church
Youth and Young Adult Choir in his hometown of Plains. One particular Sunday
he recalls having sung songs that expressed love and adoration for God.
Unbeknownst to him, there was a parishioner that was paying particular
attention. It was later revealed that the onlooker thought from his demeanor
at church that he had the perfect relationship with God.
However, it was far from the truth at the time. Later that very evening, he
met that particular person as he was coming out of a certain nightclub with
a cup of beer in his hands. Filled with indignation, the individual looked
him in the eyes and pointed a finger in his face and declared, "You are
nothing but a hypocrite." Looking back, he says, being called a hypocrite
was the best thing that could have happened to him. He sees God's loving
intervention in the act. Even though he attended church faithfully and was
busy in the church, he admits that he still was not saved. He was portraying
one image in church, but a relationship with God was not a part of his
lifestyle.
That, among many other experiences, led Rev. Edge to salvation. Another
vivid occurrence includes a dream in which he and others were on a pier when
someone pushes him into the ocean. Knowing that he was surely going to
drown, he reached out for help by lifting his hands up. In response, hands
reached out of nowhere and lifted him up out of the water. He didn't quite
understand the dream, but the revelation was soon to come. The very next
Sunday in church, the first song the choir sang was "Love Lifted Me." The
lyrics pierced his heart. God wanted to rescue him from being lost and dying
in sin. He knew God was nudging him to have a deeper walk with Him.
When he accepted Christ, there was joy unspeakable. The joy of the Lord
radiated through every thing he did. That joy, to him, is the true
manifestation of the Lord in your life.
However, answering the call to ministry was an entirely different set of
challenges. He simply did not want to do it. He felt that working out his
own salvation was quite enough for him to have to do. But deeper still was a
feeling of dread because of the enormous responsibility of ministry. He did
not want the blood of others on his hands. So he ran from the call of God.
But God was relentless. He continued to deal with Rev. Edge concerning his
purpose for him.
On one occasion Pastor Edge recalls having a vision. In the vision, he was
exhorting the congregation before the choir would come forth to sing.
However, during his exhortation, he began to compel people to come to Jesus.
People began to come out of the pews to the altar. Suddenly he saw a
spotlight shining about him. God spoke, "This is my son in whom I am
pleased." The experience, he shares, was like God marking him on his
forehead. He pondered the vision in his heart.
But there were consequences. The harder he kicked, the more difficult things
in his life became. And God would supernaturally deliver him out of all of
his troubles. One miraculous incident purely revealed God's power operating
on his behalf. He was under his home using a snake to unclog a pipe.
Suddenly, a ball of fire traveled quickly down the drain and engulfed him.
Literally shaking from the experience, he realized that not a hair on him
had been singed. He knew that God was watching over him. Being convicted by
the goodness of God, he would relent and determine that he would fulfill
God's calling. But the feeling did not last. He would later make excuses for
not pursing ministry. But a major breakthrough was on the way.
For one solid week, Rev. Edge had gone without sleeping. God visited him
every single night. Without having rested, he kept his appointment to sing
with the Echoes of Heaven quartet at the church of Pastor Wallace Jordan.
That day turned out to be a divine encounter. Pastor Jordan talked with him
about ministry. In the conversation, it was revealed that he wasn't waiting
on God, but God was waiting on Him.
After the event, he thought he could return home and finally get some sleep.
He could not. He arose from bed. With a heart full of complete submission,
he requested that God would show him once and for all if He had a plan for
him. In response, God led him to Isaiah chapter 49, verses 1 through 6. God
revealed the meaning of the passage to him. He saw for the first time that,
although he was the eighth child of his parents, that God Himself had
ordained his birth for his service.
Rev. Hosie Waters, of Lebanon Baptist Church, mentored him. He was licensed.
And the weight of ministry that he dreaded was actually lifted off of him
when he completely surrendered to the call of God.
Since then, Rev. Edge has encountered many transitions in his seventeen
years of ministry. It seems to him that God uses him for specific
purposes--to uproot, replant, and tend the seeds he has shown. (His first
name, George, actually means farmer.) One of the major obstacles he has
often had to deal with is traditions. For him, it has been very difficult to
help people flow with and be led by the Spirit. His current inspiration is
to see people come into the kingdom of God.
Throughout it all, Pastor Edge's wife of twenty years, First Lady Lindsay
Edge, has literally walked by his side every step of the way. In fact, he
thanks both God and his wife for his salvation. The manner in which she
walked with conviction was a testimony unto him. She continues to serve as a
constant source of encouragement. During times of transition, he lovingly
recalls how she expressed her support. She stated that she trusted him to
hear from God. "It means so much to have a wife who lives with me everyday,
who knows me better than anyone, and actually trusts the ministry gift that
God has placed in me," Rev. Edge stated.
In 2006, Pastor Edge founded the Restoration Church of Americus,
Incorporated. The aim of the ministry is to expressly restore God's people
back to their original place of authority and dominion. The founding
scripture is the forty-eighth verse of Isaiah chapter fifty-eight: "…the
restorer of paths to dwell in."
The Restoration Church of Americus is currently located at 1213 Douglas
Circle. More information about the pastor and ministry is available online
at www.restorationchurchofamericus.com.
Pastor and First Lady Edge are the parents of Katasha, Lakeisha, Aaron, and
Caleb. They are the proud grandparents of Shaquaja and Aaron Jordan.
