2nd Luv-n-Kare opens for after-school

It’s a dilemma for some parents when schools get out in the middle of the afternoon, but their workday does not end until 5 p.m. Luv-n-Kare after-school care can be the answer for some.

Luv-n-Kare PS II Educational Center in Americus has been the answer for many. The center opened two months ago on the corner of Jackson and Bay Streets in Americus, in the old American Legion building, to provide another avenue for after-school daycare programs. Abbis (Abby) Bivins, a former Sumter County School teacher, who had always dreamed of opening her own after-school center, owns the school.

"The love I have for kids, I love to help them everyway possible," said Bivins, who is also a nurse.

The 124 Bay Street facility offers a living environment, while providing a typical classroom, play areas, a computer section and many reading and text books. Bivins said the school offers structured organized activities, meals, field trips, tutoring and mentoring as well as a cooking club.

Educational activities are based along standards of public school system. Council Jones, who helped construct the building, said the facility was needed in Americus. And, it was his way to give back to the community. "The community really needed this,"

Jones said.

Bivins said they are currently trying to put up a music section. And, she plans to offer a program for dropouts to earn their high school diploma (GED).

Luv-n-Kare PS II is for ages 4 to 14 and currently has about 21 students. PS II, on Lee Street is for ages 6-weeks to 12 years old. Bivins said she expects enrollment to increase when schools starts back up. Those wishing to enroll can call 229 924 4988
