Part II: African Americans in Americus

There are a few Blacks in the community who are considered to be in the upper echelon of local society, but the majority of Blacks are considered and treated as subordinates by Whites in power. This is very evident by unequal representation and unequal job opportunities. According to Dr. Marshall and I agree that, "They treat the educated and highly qualified Blacks as a major threat to their racist "good ol' boy" system and the less educated and poor Blacks are just simply abused (J.D. Marshall, M.D., personal communication, June 27, 2007).

So many people turned out at the Omni Hotel at CNN Center for Willie Gary’s bash last Wednesday that by its scheduled 9 p.m. start time there was a line two-hours long to get in. The party was one of the social events scheduled as part of the week-long annual National Bar Association convention that concluded August 4.


Annie’s Kountry Cooking newest teacher appreciation partner with Sumter County Schools

As the appreciation for the professional work of the teachers and staff of Sumter County Schools increases, so does the list of Teacher Appreciation Partners, a subsidiary of Partners in Education with Sumter County Schools and the Americus-Sumter Chamber of Commerce. “Annie’s Kountry Cooking” is the first Teacher Appreciation Partner with Sumter County Schools this year. They join 19 other TAP members. The front sign at 302FG Tripp Street reads, Annie’s Kuntry Corner, Dine In, Carry Out, Chicken, Fish, T-Bone, Rib-eye, Home Cooked Vegetables, Soup, Salad, and more.
