| What would Jesus do? That's a question we
often stop to ask ourselves before engaging in a course of action. For
Christians, it is pivotal to live the life that Christ has modeled for us.
Searching through the Word, we see so many facets of Jesus' life: the deaf
hear, the blind see, and demoniacs are delivered. We readily identify the
ministry of Christ, but what about other aspects of His lifestyle? It is evident in the Word that Jesus had a social life. I believe that He was not only at the wedding to turn water into wine, but to celebrate the sanctity of marriage that His Father created. He is also shown in the Word as one that came eating (feasting) and drinking (wine). In addition, He was often entertained for dinner. Jesus came to fulfill the will of God for His life. But He also enjoyed His life as He did so. He loved fellowshipping with others. After all, it was for them and us that He gave His life. Sherlanda Jackson is the founder of Kingdom Living Events. The purpose of her ministry is to provide Christians with avenues to fellowship that have been absent in our area. She believes that Christians can have good clean fun. "Christian life does not have to be boring if you don't want it to be," she says. In fact, Ms. Jackson admits that she thought Christians were boring because they never seemed to be happy. Now that she is saved, she knows that the opposite is true. She wants to bring all of the excitement of Christian living to the forefront so others can know it is a life to be desired. Ms. Jackson hosted her first event last month. The Christian social was held at the South Campus. Music was provided. Everyone danced freely to a plethora of gospel music provided by a disc jockey-from Southern gospel to contemporary sounds. Food also lined the buffet: a variety of hot wings from Zaxby's, several Chinese dishes, and a smorgasbord of fresh fruit and vegetables. Her next event will be for Christian singles. It is scheduled for October 3rd and will feature music, dancing, food, and speed dating opportunities. The cost is only $7 per person. She also has numerous other social events planned for the Christian community. In preparation, Ms. Jackson prays over every single aspect of her events-from the vendors she employs to the attendees receiving proper rest for church the next day. She also prays that the presence of the Holy Spirit will fill the atmosphere. "In the presence of the Lord is peace, joy, happiness, and excitement," she says, "because there are no cares. I want that same environment in Kingdom Living events." At the premises, there is no smoking, profanity, alcohol, or music that would offend the Spirit of God. Ms. Jackson challenges any skeptics to come and see for themselves. She also challenges Christians that have longed for avenues of social interaction to support the vision that God has given her. I am a witness: the events are affordable, the atmosphere is energized with the Holy Spirit, you get more than what you anticipated, and you will be glad that you came.
