Realizing the impact of school attendance on Adequate Yearly Progress reports and student performance, some four years ago, Sumter County Schools and Superintendent Dr. Dennis McMahon, began daily monitoring of student’s school attendance. Coach Jimmy Green soon became the district’s Attendance Officer. Coach Green, school Principals and Social Workers have constructed a protocol of daily student attendance awareness. As each tardy and absence is recorded and reported to school administration and School Social Workers, any potential irregularity soon receives action by Coach Green and his team. They then telephoned, write, and/or visit student’s homes to discover the school attendance problem. |
