The direction in which George Bush has led America is deeply troubling to me-not only in Iraq but also here at home.

Something very basic has gone wrong in our country. Important Americus values are at risk. And it's up to you and me to set Things right.

  • We are an occupying force in the middle of a civil war in Iraq-unquestionably the worst strategic mistake in American history.

  • The president clams the right to seize any person-including American citizens-on his say- so and hold them without trial for the rest of their Lives.

  • Civil rights activists have accused the president's political operatives of using dubious clams of voter fraud in order increase Republican vote totals.

  • The NSA illegally engages in domestic wiretapping of citizens on orders of the president.

  • The president, his advisors and his allies in Congress have conspired to grant him unheard-of powers that destroy our system of checks and balances.

If the president has the inherent authority to wage a war without the support of American people or Congress, to eavesdrop on citizens without a warrant, kidnap and imprison American citizens on his own declaration, then what can't he do?

In George Bush's view, apparently nothing.

Last year, Democrats gained a one-seat majority in the Senate by just a few thousand votes. Right now they stand between George Bush and his vision of a unilateral, unchecked presidency.

But Karl Rove is already working with GOP leaders to take it all back in 2008.

It is essential that we deny them that goal.

The DSCC is the only Democratic Party committee dedicated solely to electing Democrats to the Senate. No other party organization-not even the DNC-is focused just on electing Democrats to the Senate.

It was with the help of activists like you that the DSCC engineered the Democrats takeover of the Senate-and they need your help again now to keep control in 2008.
